Cost Effectiveness of Ciprofloxacin versus Cotrimoxazole in the Treatment of Urinary Tract Infection at Hasanuddin University Hospital, Makassar

Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTI) can be treated with many of option of antibiotic. It also resulting in in a different in cost. The aim of this study to compare the cost effectiveness of cotrimoxazole with ciprofloxacin in patients with UTI in Hasanuddin University Hospital, Makassar. This study was designed by retrospective data. Data were collected from medical record from inpatients with UTI. Totally 16 patients were included in this study, while the cost effectiveness were analyzed by the average cost-effectiveness ratio (ACER). The result showed that ACER ratio for ciprofloxacin were IDR 36.239, while cotrimoxazole were IDR 28.723. In conclusion, cotrimoxazole is more cost-effectiveness than ciprofloxacin.
